HealthAssist
What We ARE
HealthAssist is a nonprofit program that helps meet the medical needs of our uninsured eastern North Carolina neighbors who qualify in Beaufort, Greene, Edgecombe, Hertford, Martin and Pitt counties.
What We Are NOT
HealthAssist is not insurance of any kind. It’s also not part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). We also do not collect any payments or premiums for our help and services.
All of our care is generously donated by our wonderful community partners.
What We Do
HealthAssist helps eligible patients in Beaufort, Greene, Edgecombe, Hertford, Martin and Pitt counties receive healthcare from participating specialists at a reduced or discounted fee. Our highly integrated multidisciplinary program includes our own dedicated team of social workers, medication assistants, and support staff, in addition to nearly 20 specialty-care practices and more than 150 providers across our six participating counties.

Told in the words of HealthAssist Uninsured Network team members, these two short videos nicely outline the important community work we do.
Thanks to videographer Brit Meli and Koinonia Christian Center, one of our frequent community partners, for assembling the above video. Though dating back a couple of years, and with some staff members in it having since retired or moved into other healthcare roles, the clip still captures what is essential about the HealthAssist community mission.
Our thanks to the wonderful folks at the Duke Endowment for assembling the above video. Note that FQHCs, mentioned in the clip, are federally qualified health centers; those in the Access East coverage area are listed on the Access East Community Resources page.
